Abstract

The research describes the social skills and academic performance of students of the Secondary Educational Institution Siervos de Dios of the district of Crucero - Carabaya. The methodology applied is descriptive - quantitative, the sample taken for the research consists of 64 high school students. The instrument applied for the respective inquiry is the questionnaire contextualized to the characteristics of the social skills evaluation checklist. The results of the investigation show that there is a moderate similarity in the planning capacity between social skills and academic performance and a low relationship in the capacity to relate socially with other people, in addition the students develop their advanced social skills with greater primacy, in spite of being almost alone at home and having adverse situations of climate, geographic location, parents dedicated to mining, commercial and agricultural activities as work opportunities; in view of this fact the students educate themselves and with the help of student leaders achieve averages between 11 to 15 as passing grades. Students who have greater control over advanced social skills are tolerant, kind, respectful, transparent people, they seek the welfare, personal and academic development of themselves and their peers; however when social skills are lousy conflicts are generated between classmates and this affects academic performance.
